I bought a roll of Ed Speers thread and I am very satisfied with it. I've made several projects and have plenty more. His service is quick and the price was right. I use the standard needle any quilter uses - nothing fancy and I rarely have a sewing hiccup.

I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

"Bless you child, when you set out to thread a needle don't hold the thread still and fetch the needle up to it; hold the needle still and poke the thread at it; that's the way a woman most always does, but a man always does t'other way."

I followed everyone's advice and bought Guterman's from Quest Outfitters when I started making gear. Great stuff - no problems. Then I got some Gutermans from OWF because I was ordering fabric from them. Also great stuff, but not the same as the thread from Quest. It's heavier (and stronger). I had to do minor adjustments to thread tension, but it's working out fine.

Quest now offers "Standard Weight" and "Extra Strong Weight": http://www.questoutfitters.com/narro...ods.htm#THREAD

    OWF shows "PG#403": http://www.owfinc.com/Hardware/Shardware/thread.asp

I haven't talked to people at Quest or OWF yet, but I'm wondering if "PG#403" is the same as "Extra Strong Weight". Probably so.

AND, start slowly with sil. Make a few stuff sacks before trying anything larger to "get the feel for the material".

Several days ago I placed an Order with SPEER.
I ordered a cone of their thread which is nylon...and more than a lifetime of use...

Ed was gracious enuf to go to the sewing machine and tell me what needle he uses...
    UNIVERSAL 100/16

I ordered some of these so I have them when I use the nylon thread from SPEER
