Ridgerunner over spec weight - am I the only one?

So I have very much enjoyed the RR. But I'm a UL hiker/canoe tripper, and was none too pleased to see my supposedly 20.25 oz RR actually weighs 24oz. It's a 30D double-layer with net.

I know that smaller differences can come down to variation from different scales, but I do have scientific weights to check scale accuracy (for example, my 500g scientific weight is shown as 501g on my scale - I'd call that highly accurate).

And of course, there is variation in materials...but ~20% difference is a lot.

    Anyone else seeing this?

Edit: their weights supposedly include the stuff sack, I weighed mine without. So the difference is even greater. This is netted...

Do you have the updated or original corner configuration? That could make a difference, if the specs listed on the product page are for the new configuration.

Good question! But that's not it...

Mine has the old system, however they did not change the spec'd weight on their site when they made that change.

I discovered the discrepancy this weekend, as I was swapping out their dogbones with DIY ones to mimic their new system. By losing the metal connectors and shortening the dogbones a few inches, I reduced the weight of the hammock 35 grams. My quoted weight for my hammock is with the stock system.

Stuffsac is another .75 oz - so I am actually 4.5 oz over-spec.

Hmmm that was my only theory. I just upgraded from a OG Blackbird to an XLC and also being a mostly UL hiker/paddler of course immediately weighed it. Came in almost dead nuts at only 7 grams over.

I’m seeing 26.25oz for the netless RR on their site.

It almost looks like you got the 40D Dream-Tex fabric instead (1 lb. 8.6 oz)

You might be on to something - certainly could be right - any idea how I tell which one I received, 30D or 40D?

Edit- I went back and checked the paperwork from 9 months ago. I did order it in 30D, but I ordered it in Grey.
I never noticed until now, but the one I got is Brown (I had gone back-and-forth on those two colors so just did not connect the dots right away...would have if it had been, say, orange).
So the chance of a Warbonnet mistake on the fabric weight, too, seems high.

I'm very curious why would you be looking at a RidgeRunner if you were truly UL? These two simply do not go together.

You might want to email Brandon at Warbonnet with this question; even posting in the Warbonnet forum here could be helpful...

Why? Like others, I believe good sleep is too important. I have the Ruta Locura bars to lighten it somewhat. They rest of the kit is UL and allows me to splurge a bit.

You'd be astonished to know that on Canoe trips I even bring a chair zero!
