-cancelled- WI>5th Annual SprinterGiving Hang>Pinewoods Campground Group Site C>April 10-12

    CANCELLED

    Untitled_.jpg

OK folks, a bit late even for me, but it's time to plan what has become our first warm(ish?) weather hang of the year. Second weekend in April in the Southern Kettle Moraine State Forest!! For those that haven't been hanging all winter (what's wrong with you?!?) here's your chance to get out and hang again!! It's also a great opportunity for those getting started, or with marginal gear looking to test it out. If ya need gear make it known as there are plenty of us that are willing to share, there's no reason for a piece of gear or even a full setup to keep someone from coming out.

For those that are interested in the history of this hang here is the thread from the inaugural event https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ang-April-8-10 What started as an excuse to get WI hangers together, after a winter of many new members joining the forum, turned into a bunch of great people (from WI and IL) that met online coming together and creating Thanksgiving in the springtime woods......and a lot of wonderful memories!!

And here are the threads from the past years, for those who want to relive the hang.....or are really, really bored

    https://hammockforums.net/forum/show...d-gt-April-7-9

    https://hammockforums.net/forum/show...C-gt-April-6-8

    https://hammockforums.net/forum/show...C-gt-April-5-7

Site cost and firewood will, as usual, be split amongst all attendees. I'll be getting our usual half face cord of wood, should be plenty for our resident firebug.....you know who you are Ga......

New this year, due to the ever increasing attendance, I'm adding the cost of the turkeys (yes, we cook more than one) and oil into the cost of the hang. So, I'll be charging for the site, firewood and turkeys/oil. With the usual numbers that shouldn't add more than a few bucks to the cost per hanger

A state park sticker is required http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/admission.html Carpool if ya can!
Ottawa Lake Campground is where park stickers can be purchased.

There is parking in front of the site, as well overflow parking in the same area that also serves as trailhead parking for the Scuppernong Trails and a connecting route to the Ice Age Trail.

Here's some info about the camping as well as the surrounding area:

Pinewoods Group Camp offers four large sites (A, B, C and D) that accommodate up to 40 people and 20 vehicles per site. The Pinewoods campground has pit toilets near the sites and a shower house with flush toilets in the center of the campground. Water has been available nearby in the past. Electricity is not available on the campsites. Pinewoods group camp is open for camping from April 1 through the Wednesday before deer gun hunting season. This campground is on Waterville Rd. in the town of Ottawa. Campers must check in at the Ottawa Lake contact station off Hwy ZZ in Dousman.

    http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/kms/trails.html

A couple of those trails from the link that are worth seeing:

    Paradise Springs nature trail
County Highway N north of State Highway 59, just west of Eagle. Fieldstone spring house, former resort hotel, dam and former trout holding tank. Catch and release trout pond (artificial lures only). Paved accessible trail. Reservable picnic shelter. Vault toilets. 0.5 miles. Paradise Springs nature trail [PDF].

    Stute Springs nature trail
County Highway Z south of State Highway 59, across from Emma Carlin. Foundations of a former 180-acre farm, spring house, stone fences. Hike an extra mile to the top of “Big Hill” (highest point in the Kettle Moraine). 1.5 mile loop. Stute Springs nature trail [PDF].

Spreadsheet to follow......maybe, most of you know how those work out for me

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing

    Thanks 'tooner

I do have the site reserved for Thursday night, to avoid last year's....adventure, as well for those who want to get an extra night in or can't make the weekend.....yeah, you that fella from MN

This will be my fourth SprinterGiving and the fourth anniversary of my first ever outdoor hang. Time flies when you're just hanging out. Looking forward to it.

We share an anniversary! It will be my 5th anniversary of my first night in a hammock! (I really don't pray for a repeat sleet storm though!) Happy Anniversary to us!
