You want to put the screw into the studs which surround the door frame. Using the door frame itself is risky. I believe someone posted a pic where they tore out a frame by hanging their hammock from it.

You're correct, Knotty... modern pre-hung door and window frames are fastened through the trim, with finish nails!

Does anyone know of a good thread with directions for making an easy/cheap hammock stand?
A little reluctantly I think I will look into making one, but I may just go for corner to corner in my room if it looks like a much easier option
