I was looking at the Clarks, but nixed it when I realized that they are more for banana sleeping and not diagonal. You lie flatter on the diagonal.

Just something you should be aware of.

    To a point...

I had a NX-200 which is much longer than what I needed (I'm 5'7"), so I would hang it with a fair amount of sag, which allowed me to lay on the diagonal and get a pretty flat lay. I could even side-sleep really well.

It would be much easier to use a hammock on the ground than to try a tent in the air.

Check out the Crazy Creek line...I did a BGT test and used mine on the ground. It's pretty comfortable with an inflatable pad in there, and it works well on the ground b/c it has poles to keep the bug net off. Huge and roomy as a hammock...kinda like a very large bug bivy as a tent, but not a full-sized tent.

Their tarp sucked, but get an aftermarket tarp that you can use in either configuration and I think you'll be happy with this setup. It's a little heavy for backpacking but for canoe/kayaking it would be a great middle-ground, IMO.

BGT seems to have kept only the Long Term Reports and deleted the Initial and Field Reports...which is moderately useful but lacks a lot of the actual test data. I guess I'll restore them to my website when I get a chance...but here's a Trip Report with some pics of the Crazy Crib used on the ground.

An emergency of my own making...is still an emergency.
