This is like a disc that is either made for or worn into a disc for the purpose of throwing it so that it lands on edge and rolls down the course instead of being airborne. Usefull if you are up under trees. Some people can get more distance out of rollers than they can out of airborne drives.

If it's more efficient to roll the disc why don't you just play with a ball? Isn't a sphere more conducive to dealing with varying planes and obstacles than a flat circle?

It isn't always as efficient. Sometimes it is the only option if you are up under trees. Also it isn't as easy to control where it finally stops rolling.

I suppose a sphere would be better but then you wouldn't be playing disc golf, you would be rolling a ball around.

I went to a Play It Again Sports looking for a new used racquetball racquet and saw some of the golf discs. I don't understand why they make them so sharp on the edge. That seems like a real liability if you hit someone. Are there any regulations that would prevent someone from getting killed by one of those things?

Aerodynamics. And not all are sharp on the edge. They are definitely not designed to be thrown and caught.

The not all too common use of common sense. Do we really need more regulations?

Regulations don't prevent things anyway. The actions of people are what regulations affect.
