Question Where to purchase large rings?

I'm looking for rings to make a small gear hammock with, and eventually i want to recreate a WW2 style Navy hammock, canvas and all for sleeping in. I'm having trouble finding a ring that is geared toward hammocks. I van find descender rings all day, but not anything bigger than 2 inches wide outer diameter. Any sources you guys recommend?

It might help if you provide the dimensions of what you are looking for and how it would be used. would a 2 1/4" ring be the right size or are you looking for a 20" ring.

Unless you want 100% historical authenticity, consider using a climbing caribiner instead. That way, 1) makes it much simpler to weave together, 2) you can swap it out, and 3) makes it easy to put up and take down. For this application, you would want an oval, pear, or triangular shape.

thats a good point, and i've thought about it. I really prefer the aesthetic of the round ring so im going to fall back on caribiners as a last resort. of course caribiners are much easier to come by

Try Weaver Leather Supply : https://www.weaverleathersupply.com/
    or Springfield Leather: https://www.springfieldleather.com/
and if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty, there is Beiler's Mfg. and Supply. They are an Amish harness maker's supply and have EVERYTHING along those lines. Unfortunately, they don't have a web site, but you can call the VERY friendly folks there, tell them what you are looking for, and they can fix you up. Phone 717-768-0174

    Have fun!

How many do you need? I had Alu descender rings in my heart kit. Not sure how many though.

At least a couple of our usual vendors sell rings about 2 - 2.5 diameter inches. Definitely larger than climbing rings. I have them on the ends of most my hammocks. It makes it so easy to switch out different suspension and creates and water break at the same time. Only downside is it adds additional inches - but not nearly as many as a whoopie sling - to the required tree distance. But on those few occasions I can just connect on the hammock side of the ring.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
