I picked up the aluminum camo netting poles off ebay a number of years ago. The prices/shipping vary considerably, but if you stay vigilant you may be able to make a reasonable purchase.

Thanks for the tip on the scaffolding swivel clamps. Those are bound to come in handy.

For the XX-Stand I make up two triangles, each with a base of two poles and both sides of the triangle have three poles.

The bases are 6-feet 6-inches apart. Lay the apex of the triangles to overlap each other. When the sections are raised, the outside pole where the "X" is created is 2-feet from the ground.

Base of triangle secured to sides of triangle. These are pool plumbing rubber stoppers.

Two section poles to support the triangles ends. Adjust to where the apex of the triangles are secured by the 8-foot section poles so that at the top span of these support poles are 14-feet apart. That becomes the integrated ridgeline for your tarp, I use a 4x4-meter tarp for this.

So the traveling package is as follows:

8-poles per triangle and 2-poles per support.

    8+8+2+2 = 20 poles @ 2.2-lbs per pole = 44-lbs

5-canvass bags with 4-poles in each bag; each bag weighs 8.8-lbs + bag weight.

I'm really liking this freestanding version. I have a fire pit in the backyard between two Cherry trees that are about 25' apart. I was considering building a Pergola so we'd have a permanent place to hang out there. But a few of these might suit my needs better and also help with the truck camping when my son wants to go. He's not into backpacking ....yet.
