ah ... but I couldn't do without the gorge for long! ha! Besides in New Zealand wouldn't we have to get our faces tattooed and stick out our tongues a lot?

'course ... might be worth it for the fly fishing! ha!

But they won't let me nap in my hammock, tied to the trees, with my levergun on my belly!

Those sand fleas you have in Aoteoroa might be worse than our black flies. Do they still hunt deer from helicopters? That had to be the weirdest thing I ever saw when kayaking the Motu.

That is very disappointing news. I was in South Mountains park 2 weeks ago, it is one of my favorites to day trip or do a longer overnight along the old CCC roads. Bummer...

Hawk-eye : I agree, the Gorge is one my favorite places to hang at too, used to camp out on Babel Tower a lot when I was younger.

this banning of hammocks had better not become a trend.

mayhap they will issue permits for hanging, like they do for backcountry usage...?
    it's worth asking.

Well, we determined that there wasn't a policy disallowing hanging, so feel free to continue.

I hope permits never happen. They are just an poor alternative chosen due to inability to enforce a rule directed at a root problem (or a bark problem ).

All they need to do is punish the people who damage trees. If enforcement is impractical, they should ignore the problem. There should be no rules they cannot enforce, nor alternatives that are an imposition on those who aren't the problem.

Gotta stop this before I get a nasty note from a mod.
