Another option to deal with the ridgeline, is to measure it very carefully, and add a carabiner (good climbing rated one) to the ridgeline. Leave the ridgeline attached when you are setting up camp, and sleeping in the hammock, but unhook it when sitting or goofing around.
We have lots of Canucks on this board, but I don't think I said 'allo to you yet. Welcome.
I ride a recumbent.
I like to HAM it up on the CW.
I use Linux.
I play go.
Of course I sleep in a hammock!

If its that cold up in canada, consider vapor barriers and a good hot meal before you goto bed. VB's can keep you warm for minimal weight when supplemented with quilts/bags, but keep an eye out for your body temp, you dont want condensation buildup. It has to be really cold to use vb's, i'd say your trip qualified.
actually, winter is pretty much gone now, even if there is still trace of snow, its way colder at night usually but i was in a rush to go out hammocking, just recived a blackbird in the mail, i just had to go NOW but Miss Summer take her sweet time getting ready. So until my tarp gets here (didnt choose yet.. Superfly? with or without doors.. dunno) I don't think its gonna go under zero celcius at night. I had eaten a Mountain House MRE just before bed, could be why i was 100% warm until 3-4am in the mo'ning. Never heard of VB system.. i thought (but didnt do) the boiled water in nalgene tactic
