    Dynaglide BB

Hey everybody. Originally i replaced my straps with 1/8th inch amsteel whoppie slings, then i moved to 7/64 whoppies, and finally i have arrived at darn thin and darn scary lookin dynaglide whoppie slings. I am testing them tonight, i layed in them for about 30 min tonight, nothing broke. I used locked brummels at the hammock connections.

My question is, if all goes well, what about replacing the standard BB ridgeline with this ul dynaglide for even more weight savings. Im also worried about abrasion as this stuff is only 2mm thick, any input would be gear if anyone has any experience with it. I guess after all is said and done, i may be able to get my now 22oz double layer 1.1 bb down to 20oz(just a guess), how sweet would that be? comments?

What are you using to protect the trees? A 2mm thick line around the tree itself sounds very damaging to me? Plus, it may hold for awhile, but may give out in the middle of a windy night when you're just getting use to it.

I'd be willing to bet that Ike still uses tree straps, and no, the dynaglide won't give out.

Ike, I don't have a BB, but any hammocks I do have that are using the dynaglide whoopies, do not show any wear. It appears to me, that there is no sawing or cuttting action. Once the whoopies been loaded/stressed to your weight, its tight and does not move. one hammock has over 40 nights in use. I'm fat, no damage,...your good to go. I use a double wrap on the hammock.

I've put dynaglide whoopies on my hammock as well as a dynaglide ridgeline. I'll be putting it to the test this spring. I'll post here if I have any issues. Yes, I'm using them in combination with huggers and a marlin spike hitch/toggle setup.

Ike, what is the total weight of your Blackbird setup, tree straps and stuff sack included? I'm all ears.

my lighter blackbird is as follows:

BB Dbl 1.1 = 21.2oz w/ 2 whoppie slings with 34 feet(8-9 feet of adjustability on each side and 17 feet of line on each sling) of dynemma 2mm line
    2 6 foot tree huggers = 2.5oz
    2 JRB uq suspenstion attachments = 1oz
    2 stakes = .4oz
    Total: 24.9oz
    for hammock + setup stuff

I think the single layer instead of double layer would take off another 7oz, so that would be around 17.9oz if you had the same setup. Im gonna replace the ridgeline with a dyenemma setup too though, so that outta save me a half oz. I believe i can also replace the JRB suspension system with a lighter version as well, shave off another half oz. Man it would be sweet to have a 17 oz blackbird setup, imagine having a 1lb BB with everything it needs plus all the advantages of a blackbird. Might sell my other double and get a single, durability is my only concern.

Ok well i got my blackbird lighter..i switched to a single layer 1.1 in grey, replaced the 1/2oz ridgeline with an adjustable one less than half that. Replaced suspension with dynaglide whoppies. Replaced the side tieout cord with lighter shock cord and the cordlocks with smaller ones. Final weight of 1.1 single w/o stuff sack(i don't use a stuff sack for it, just stuff it in my pack):

    modified bb single layer 1.1 = 14.1oz
    2 6 foot huggers = 2.5oz
    --
Modified JRB UQ suspension = .5oz(replaced biners with nacras, shock cord with lighter shock cord)

    OR

NO uq suspension needed if using a yeti uq(just the supplied shock cord)

    --
    2 stakes = .4oz

Total weight of hammock w/ suspension and stakes and huggers:
17oz or 17.5oz if taking a jrb quilt

A 17 ounce BB! Way to go!

I've been eying those Dynaglide RL's for some time now. But I've been really concerned with the thin line cutting through the hammock material. My logic is kinda the same as why we don't use line for tree straps -- it injures the bark. Maybe since nylon is already "dead" its not a big deal.

I'll be really anxious to hear long term results; the middle-term results so far seem quite positive.

    Thanks for posting this info.
