    Dutch buckles

    Hi everyone !!

Except to pack your straps, is it necessary to keep the shock cord on the dutch buckles ? I can see on some pictures the shock cord passing behind the continuous loop, some kind of security to make sure that the continuous loop will not "fall" when the hammock is not loaded ?

Except for tarp guy lines, I wonder what you are referring to with the shock cord. It’s my understanding that Dutch buckles are part of a hammock suspension and I can’t imagine any “structural” bungee cord in that setup. Maybe you are referring to some kind of “keeper” that holds the continuous loop on the buckle. Dutch has several buckles; does this one have a specific name?
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

I think he may be talking about these: https://dutchwaregear.com/product/the-dutch-buckle/

Used with whoopie slings instead of the marlinspike hitch & toggle

The shock cord prevents the rolled up tree straps from falling apart but you can use the Dutch buckles without it.

No. It's only purpose is to keep the strap from unrolling. Very useful.
