I very much doubt it, since they do not seal up completely.

I wouldn't trust mine to a rain. Haven't tried getting it wet and if I ever have to carry it externally on my pack, I'll put it in a dry bag. Otherwise, it'll go in my pack inside a contractor bag.

No way are they waterproof. They shed casual water just fine, but I wouldn't trust them enough to let them get 'wet'.

The material is waterproof, but they're not seamsealed and the closure is just a normal roll-down with a buckle. They're not marketed as drybags but they're pretty water resistant.

If you're looking for a real drybag, check out Jason Klass's testing of several models.

Good enough to keep the dew off, or quick roll in the snow, but other wise, no.

    Agree they are not waterproof...

That said here are two cases to think on.

Back in 2005 a guy in Australia, dumped a canoe... And wrote us that when he recovered his pack and JRB quilt in the JRB Compression Sack the quilt was dry after a several hundred yard float/dunk... Luck , maybe... reasonable protection, maybe.

Back in 2004 when we first designed the JRB Compression sack we stuffed one and tossed it in a swimming pool , fished it out and repeated a couple of more times...On inspection the quilt was essentially dry... one spot about the size of a quarter was damp...Again Luck maybe... reasonable protection maybe.

One other observation...FWIW if you wnt more waterproofing...Turn it inside out stuff it, then seal the "H" seam on the bottom...Let dry a day...Then turn it right side out, stuff it, and seal the side seam to within 3 inches of the top...This will add significant waterproofness, but, it makes closure a little harder and slower squeezing air out the top corners as it is rolled down.

Jeff; do you have a link to that. I've tried looking all over jason's site and googled it and can't find it.
