First hang, First damage

I woke up in the morning with these damage on 1 of my strap.. maybe the buckle decided to move while i was sleeping, not quite sure yet how did it happen but im sure the webbing can't take a lot of hanging before it fail on me. I have to find the problem

Once again, any input is appreciated

Is it the stock Blackbird strap or aftermarket?

Is there a burr on the buckle or rings?

Squirrel damage?

I not at the point yet of accusing Squirrel but i'll keep that in mind if I dont find the problem, hehe

My blackbird was bought maybe 1 month ago.. and I have not change anything from the system that was shipped by Brandon. I wasnt around before but i think its a new kind of buckle. a cinch-type buckle which replaces the older tri-rings as said on the instruction i have received.

not quit sure what you mean by "burr" but I see no trace on the buckle

Just a sharp spot or a little piece of metal that didn't get removed during manufacturing.

My BB has the cinch buckles, too. Around Thanksgiving I hung a night and woke to find the webbing jammed in the foot end buckle. Took 3 or 4 minutes to get it out and it was frayed but not as badly damaged as yours. Was the webbing jammed against the side of the buckle?

looks like probably the webbing was a little askew (not stacked) and slipped a little. (if it's really askew it can slip all the way). any strap damage i've seen is always along the edge and due to that. just be careful to make sure the webbing is perfectly stacked after you finish making your setup adjustments and it won't slip at all and as result that won't happen.

this has happened to a handful of people and it's fully avoidable by just checking it once you have the hammock where it needs to be. it happens because those buckles are meant for 1.25" webbing so there's room for the 1" webbing to move askew during adjustments. i've recently had some custom one inch buckles made so that can't happen (no room for the webbing to move side to side) they are lighter too.

if you're strap is to the point you don't want to use it i can send you another one

The frayed area really doesn't look too severe. If it were me, I'd take a lighter and carefully melt those fuzzy bits until they were flush with the strap. That will keep the frays from catching on something and making it worse.

I have had this "Alignment" problem too but w/o any damage. Does anyone know where we can get 1.25" webbing?

This is one of the main reasons I switched from the buckles to the whoopies. With the 1.25" buckles, make sure there aren't any twists in the webbing from the tree to the buckle and make sure you stack everything just so. It also doesn't hurt to throw a hitch on there as a back up. The only issue with that is it can create a lateral pull that will skew the lay of the webbing and cause it to slip until the hitch catches.

Just my 2 cents, but if you switch to whoopies then the problem is solved.
