"Leadmine Trail and pick up the Linville Gorge Trail"

What's the status of these "trails" now? Last October it took 3+ hours from Conely to Pinchin with the constant search for the alleged trail, brush, brambles, blowdowns and leaf filled pits. Was a fun but literally bloody trip! And I was strongly advised to avoid the Leadmine route.

... Leadmine is in pretty good shape as of last report. Check out post #271 from Ken ... even has a picture.

Yes, last year Leadmine was incomplete. Half of it was pure bushwhack, and hard to find and follow when traveling south. Since then, someone went to the end of the finished portion and found a route steeply downhill to the LGT. That became established, and since the steep section is short, it's not so bad. THe winter storms covered up the area that was just bushwhack, so the person pushing for that route has given up and abandoned it. Now, traveling south on the LGT there is a small sign before you get to the cliffs pointing the way onto Leadmine. After climbing the steep section to cross Sharp Ridge it's a pretty nice trail to the MST at the 1600 foot contour.

    Thanks Ken,

Any update on the LGT from Conely south? The person answering at the Ranger Station said there were a lot of blowdowns there also. And that a crew was worrking on, and closing whatever area they work on. She wasn't at all clear about where they are working.

Steve, we're having trouble getting that same info. Seems the outfit doing the trail work isn't communicating too much. A few weeks ago I parked at Pinnacle and went down the MST and across Leadmine to the LGT. Everything was clear that far. Hiked the LGT up to Pinchin. That south end of the LGT had some patches of deadfall across it, but nothing that people hadn't already been going around without much trouble. Of course, north of Pinchin the trail is rougher with more ups and downs, and I have not seen that. I know people have been hiking it, but have not heard a good report of the conditions.

I'll put out a feeler on linvillegorge.net and see what we can find out. I think the most accurate info will come from hikers anyway.

Ken, see if you can get some info on the other end of LGT... I want to do an overnight on June 5.

    Thank you!

Yeah, I saw that Mac. I'll see if anyone knows anything, but from what we've heard lately I think the work is done as far south as Babel Tower. Will keep you informed.

Ken ... I just talked with the Nebo office ... Deb is not there but she'll be going in the gorge later this week to inspect the work. Maybe we can get an update from her by Monday. It's not just us they're not keeping up to date on the contract work!

When they do, are we going to see those signs in the Gorge that say, "Your stimulus dollars at work." ??

Found a bunch of them in Big Bend Natl Park. Last weekend's Canadian visitor saw lots of them on the highway between here and Florida.

Ha! Someone would steal the signs and use them for firewood. Thanks Michael. If Sunday were not Mother's Day I'd go have a look myself. I might
anyway. I can be back home before "whatsername" gets home from work!
