Jerry, Avatar's Rib is a rib of rock on the southeastern corner of Babel Tower. It runs out and down, to overlook the river almost straight across from Henson Creek. As you come up Linville Gorge Trail you'll climb some switchbacks up onto the Tower and to the intersection with Babel Tower Trail. Leaving the trails there and turning right will allow you to explore the Tower. There are a lot of exploration paths, and Avatars is about as far east as you can go.

I think you guys camped at what we call the MST/hilltop camps. If you're standing in the road at Spence facing the trailhead, the old forest road is on your left leaving the parking area. Follow it to the intersection/clearing and the camps are back over you left shoulder up the hill.

HB and I talked and I believe we'll be dining Friday morning at Luisa's for some of that strawberry rhubarb pie.

The drive is ~25 min less for us and I can't have just one slice of that pie
