You are wise to allow a few extra ounces over absolute minimum. You can end up paying a lot to save just a few ounces. You can spend the money on your under quilt. If you have a sleeping bag already, you can keep it unzipped (except for the bottom 2 ft for your two feet) and use it as a top quilt. You can read threads about under quilt protectors (UQP) and that might be something for you - especially if your tarp doesn’t have doors. If you want a little more privacy, doors are handy for that too.

For me, the simplest hammock suspension is daisy chain and light carabiner (like WarBonnet sells). Webbing and buckles work almost as well. The downside of buckles is the time/fuss of threading the webbing, rather than just clipping a carabiner. The downside of daisychain is you have fixed steps that might be too wide - but that was in the past. Now DutchWare has spider daisy chain that is way light and very small increments between links.

It’s good to buy quality gear and also to understand that what you will start with may not be what you end up with a year or so later. There is so much personal learning - and the best thing to do is start somewhere. When it’s time for you to change something, you can sell your quality, well cared for, gear on this forum or keep it for a friend to use.

If Ticks are an issue, you might want to read the threads about Permethrin treatment.

It’s good to get as much TIH (time in hammock) as possible - especially learning/trying out things at home before hiking miles down a trail.
