    Frost/dew protection

Hi all, had the last three nights in my hammock in the garden (yard!) taking advantage of the high pressure and clear skies.
Nothing beats going tarpless and netless but how to keep the dew, frost and subsequent damp off my hammock and insulation without spoiling the sky view....

It's a total guess. Some nights "feel" dry but when the temperature approaches the dew point things get moist. I used to go tarpless most nights but started to run out of luck, getting soaked on occasion. So it's back to setting up the tarp.

I saw a video with a secondary ridgeline used to create porch mode with a very short overhang. The tarp was in a diamond configuration and the porch flap was pulled back over the top of the ridgeline and tied off on the back side. It wasn't completely open to the sky directly overhead, but the secondary ridgeline was created with ground stakes and could be adjusted for different lengths of overhangs.

    Video, see at ~8 minutes.

    Sometimes dew just happens.
I did a video of some See the Sky Tarp pitches.
My favorite is the Quarter Back pitch. See the sky but a lot of coverage.

It's all about the relative humidity (RH) and temp, which together give you dew point.

And it's not just about the ambient RH number you get on your local radio or TV forecast, but the micro climate where your camp is set up. If you're near a stream or a meadow with moist soil, *no wind* to speed evaporation and cool enough temps, you'll get some dew — or a lot! — based on these factors.

honestly there's times you could have the tarp all set up and still everything gets moist, usually it's only on the outside though it might feel damp a little bit at first but that goes away pretty quick once you get settled in

    Thanks all.
Those tarp configs give me some more options for sure.
I understand the conditions that cause it, just wondering if there was a kit item that would go between the dew and my hammock/quilts.

An underquilt protector may help. Make sure it is a breathable fabric and hangs loosely.
