First, I’d make sure it’s a side loading machine - not a top loader with an agitator. Second, I’d have everything zipped up to minimize something getting pulled. That last point has to do with an attached bug net. I’d imagine that can be kind of delicate. It if were just a gathered end hammock with no net - toss it in. Unless you have heavy hardware attached to the ends. If so, maybe the hardware gets swallowed by a small bag or something so that it doesn’t bang around the inside of your machine.

When I started, I got synthetic quilts because of my water sports. But over time, I’ve found I could keep my down dry (good tarp, UQP, dry bags, etc.)

I did have one experience that was a bit sobering. It was in my tent days on the north side of Vargas Island - north of Tofino on the Vancouver Island west side. We woke to a mist that coated and saturated everything. All surfaces, outside the tent, were wet. If we left the tent door open, everything inside the tent would become wet too. So this was different than rain. Rain just comes down - sometimes sideways - and you can usually block it with a tarp. But this, this was like moisture on a search and destroy mission. Any surface, nook and cranny, it could reach was wet.

Not sure now a down quilt, even under a tarp and protected by a UQP, would fair.

But that was only one time (which I never forgot) in years and years of experience.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Thanks for the suggestions and tips. I decided to pull off the chinch buckles that were on my CL's and changed to the Beetle Buckles, for a few reasons. Now that my hammock is hardware free it should be pretty easy to wash.

I am very new so please forgive the formalities.
I camp at the beach a lot. I have found that if I rub down my feet and legs with baby powder it takes the sand, dirt, moisture off the body. This may help in other areas. I am not sure how the powder will affect the Down.

I don't mind sleep gear...except for the Tychem suit I tried as a vapor barrier

Way too warm for the 30° temp at the time.

I don't hike, I motorcycle camp & usually I sleep in my clothes in cooler weather. Summer I go with t shirt & drawers. I wash a few things periodically. Never sold a piece of gear in my life. Have gave some away.

I followed that thread. It looked like you were headed for a hazmat zone.

I spend most of my time in the desert, and being nomadic I tend to avoid really cold winters (they tend to suck when your inside space is smaller than most peoples walk-in-closet). So right now cold is just getting around freezing. The rest of the year is warm and for part of year the temps can get up into the triple digits if I don't roll northward. W/ that being said, I have trouble wearing much clothes for most of the year and the thought of getting dressed up for bed doesn't fly well. I don't hate how my hammock feels, so . . . I'll just become skilled at cleaning all this synthetic gear, and when I add some down it will probably be just an underquilt.
I also use the hammock pretty much daily as it gives us a whole 'nother outside room no matter what the ground is like.

Personally if i was going to going to crawl into a sleeping bag naked after I'm all sweaty and gross from days of hiking, I would stick to synthetic gear so its easy to clean.

    We don't sweat in the desert, . . . it's a dry heat.
