Location location location! It's not just a clever marketing phrase for Realtors, it is also a good idea for campers.

To avoid having to move or "batten down" pick a site that protects you from the wind. In my neck of the woods (SW Ohio) that means getting on the East side of the hill. The steeper the hill on your side the better. Before setting up, checking for dead falls is a good idea. Don't just look for dead or weak branches, but look for trees that may fall on you, or fall on trees that may fall on you.

My last BIG T-storm was in 08 on the AT in northern Tenn, I was on an abandoned logging road (It had big trees growing IN it) & well protected from the westerly wind. sometimes the wind slowed down to 50 MPH (according to the weather service radio) I slept all night. No flapping, minimal swaying.

If I have to, my entire camp can come down in just a few minutes* & I will move to a better location. If my site selection was less than stellar, I should move.

*Whoopie slings, toggles & straps with dutch clips for the hammock. (My UQ is permanently attached to the hammock & goes in the blackbishop bag.) Figure 9s & carabiners for the tarp. All make for a quick set up & take down, & probably I can take down & pack up in under 5 minutes. I can, that is, if properly motivated. Near death is a proper motivator in my book.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

    A quick disconnect solution.

They weigh 0.55 oz each, but they do dis-connect fast.
Those who sacrifice freedom for safety, have neither.

    Probably. I haven't looked in a while.
Somewhere here at HF Blackbishop posted the idea a few years ago. I have had mine for years. A Blackbishop bag is just a suitable sized stuff sack with a hole in the bottom to run your suspension through. Mine (homemade) is actually large enough to hold: my hammock, Underquilt & Top Quilt. I put the TQ in a separate stuff sack as it makes packing my backpack easier.

THe thing is though, if i have a line with a loop attached as i have described, i think it will be a tighter connection on the stake, as well as less weight.

I like the idea of quick disconnects... smart to be prepared in advance.

On sailing vessels, it's why we carry knives. A hundred and fifty years ago, the most desperate call from the mate was, "Cut away!"

Usually, my stakes are automatic quick disconnects. Never know when they will actuate!
