    I actually made a crude top quilt using 1" (IIRC) batting I found on sale at JoAnn's. It was good down to 50 *F for me (I sleep rather cold). At the price, I just got a queen sized one and used half of it. Figured I could open up the shell and add the second layer later on. It is rather bulky, and not all that light weight. Sure was cheap, though, with a $!/yd Walmart fabric shell. Good learning experience.
