    Insultex hammock ???

If i wanted to make one of the do it yourself gathered end hammocks with 1 layer of Insultex stuffed in between 2 layers of ripstop nylon, are there any cons to doing it that way? In essence it would be like this:

    Ripstop nylon
    Insultex
    Ripstop nylon

I am thinking that incorporating 1 layer of Insultex would keep me from having to use an underquilt in the summer time. Any thoughts, pros or cons would be appreciated.

This very topic was debated and tested by quite a few of us this past winter and we all pretty much came to the conclusion that IX does not work well when compressed (as in between layers). It needs air space between- like a few layers in a differential cut UQ. With air space, it works great.

I made one of those, although I also added a space blanket to the mix. Couldn't tell that it did much though.

Check TeeDee's past post on the IX bridge hammock. Good info. Might be able to adapt similarly with a built in gap between hammock and IX, but need to seal around the edges somehow. (built in draft collars all around the edges?)

Yeah, to make it work you would essentially be permanently attaching a differential cut UQ. The IX doesn't work well when it is tight up against you, or compressed. It likes to ride close, but loose.
