    Stacking Question

I have an HG Burrow/Incubator 30*F, 40 degree with 30 degree baffle mods (LOVE IT!!!) setup that I added a folded down throw blanket that gives me an additional, at minimum, 1" more loft. I'm thinking 0 degrees F ??? (-17.78 C)... Sound about right? (I'm a nerd, so please show your math!)

    A 30º and a 40º should get you to 0º.....

Thanks for that, but I don't have a rating for a 1/2" down blanket (folded in 1/2 to make it 1"-1.25). Is there a degrees to loft chart? A better q would have been "what is 1" of down in degrees?

Hey I have a related question..

I already have an Cumulus Selva 300 and I'm happy with it but it's a bit too much for summer nights and just not enough for winter temps. I've used it in temps like -5 at night and at times it feels a bit chilly. I'd like to go to proper winter temps, but would not like to get entirely new quilt for those nights, those are not cheap you know..

So I've been thinking about DIYing an Climashield UQ for summer and then stacking it with the Selva when needed. Something like this. I have Hennessy Explorer Zip with 2 layers.

I could even have 2 Climashield ones from different thickness and then an down one. Would give quite a lot of options, but would it be excessive? So any tips on stacking an down uq with synthetics..?

    Cheers,
    Janne

Janne, ok to stack underquilts. If no problems due to size or shape, I would be careful to not compress the down in an underquilt that is filled with down. Maybe place down-filled underquilt on outside or furthest away from hammock to keep down from being compressed and losing its loft.

I think synthetic filled underquilts resist compression better than down filled underquilts.

Watch Shug’s YouTube videos about underquilts.
He has several on underquilts, and at least one video about stacking underquilts

If you can get your hands on a couple of the “Costco down blankets” they are a great DIY option for underquilts and top quilts and awesome for stacking or even combining with kamsnaps. Tons of info about these on the forum. Here’s the one I always reference:
