    Hey ya'll from SE Louisiana

Another middle aged newb getting off the couch. I've been watching videos and acquiring gear for the last year or so. Backyard tested my set up down to the upper teens a couple weeks ago. I don't expect I will see temps that low out on trail this far south to often, but its nice to know what you have. This past week I through hiked the Black Creek trail in south Mississippi. Man that'll show you how out of shape you are. I'll probably be walking crooked for a few days. What are some other good 2-3 day hikes in S. Mississippi/Louisiana?

I haven't been on this forum for long, but have already discovered so much useful info, so THANKS for that.
Also I gotta say Shug's videos and a few other guys on the Youtubes have been a great inspiration.

Welcome from Texas via Houma Louisiana. I didn’t hammock in the hard freeze we had but I did ride my motorcycle at an all new record of 19 degrees. Haha.

Welcome from Gulfport. A shorter trail, but also somewhat challenging is the Tuxachanie. Its only 13 miles but could do round trip for 26 miles. The remote end around POW is a little more challenging, although not as much as the Red Hills section of Black Creek.

Whiskey Rambler, welcome to the madness. Black Creek is a good float trip too.

tuxhiker, do you know if Airey Lake is open yet?
My ego said, SURE you can.
Half way in my body said OH NO YOU CAN'T

Clear Springs recreation area near Meadeville/Roxie Mississippi has a nice 10mile loop. Some nice camp spots about 1/2 way.

Wild Azalea, Backbone, and Caroline Dormon are all in Kisatchie near Alexandria. All nice fun trails.

Lake Chicot has a 20 miles loop but not the funnest hike.

Drifter, Airey is still closed from Zeta. Many trees are down waiting to be cleared. Prior to Zeta, it was only open for day use because of Covid. However the horse camp around the corner from Airey is open. I don't know if they have water available there. I've been trying to think of a place for a hammock hang. I'll try to check out the horse camp for amenities. They have vault toilet, but not sure if that's open either. Landings on Black Creek are open but only for day use. Bathrooms closed. POW is still closed. I'll try to remember to update with any new info.

The horse camp mentioned in the previous post does not have running water. The vault toilet is still closed.

The POW rec area was full of people day and night this past weekend. We hiked from POW to the horse rest picnic table where we ran into TuxHiker! We camped there and hiked back to Bethel Rd then down the road into the main POW entrance back to the car. It was a very nice weekend for being outdoors!
Airey Lake was still gated and locked but I did see lights from someone that was camping near the water. It was dark so we didn't venture in. We diverted to POW and base camped there.
Good to see someone else that likes to boast of their enjoyment of Whisk(e)y!
Welcome and we look forward to you hanging with the group soon.
Be on the lookout for the Louisiana hang coming in 2 weeks!
