I reserved a type5 site because I thought there would be more space. There were only 3 type2 sites available verses 56 of the type5. I plan on getting there earlier in the day to possibly go around and maybe pick my site. I am not sure that is how it works there but I am sure going to try. I also want to set up some type of backpacking trip from these sites. Maybe a day trip of something????.

Ill have to check... But I seem to remember that camping is allowed just about anywhere on state land. There are certain restrictions like how far from an established site you need to be... how far from roads, waterways etc.
Yup.... Had to brainstorm to remember what they called it... "dispersed camping."
Here is the permit...

Not sure if the applies here... But it is specific in that it says "state forest" and not "state park."Dispersed Camping
You can camp anywhere on State Forest Property as long as:
* the property is not posted "No Camping"
* you are more than one mile from a designated State Forest Campground
* you follow all State Land Rules
You must also post a Camp Registration Card (PR 4134) at your campsite. To obtain a Camp Registration Card, contact your local DNR Office
