    Seeking Advice

Hi, I'm on the board of an HOA in Texas. We have a "hammock park", i.e. we have a park with steel poles that can support up to 5 hammocks. They have been pretty popular with the residents. We have 3 of the 5 slots set up with hammocks that we supply and 2 for those that residents want to hook up their own. Our problem is that the ones we supply are up 100% of the time and don't last long. We sometimes have some stiff winds, kids playing them, and of course sunlight. So they have a pretty tough life. We added swivels between the hammocks and the chains that support them to combat wind twisting the strings up. That works well but we still need something better.

So what we are looking for are commercial grade hammocks that can withstand harsh conditions and last at least a year being up 24x365. I've done some searching but not really come up with any. Please point us to some manufactures that build these types. Thanks!

Sounds like an interesting problem to address. Are budget limitations a factor? Awnings and sails are exposed to the elements daily or regularly. Perhaps explore those manufacturers.
The game is the best teacher.

I have chatted with Marty, very nice guy, very knowledgable...and not limited to any single time of hammock.
I suggest call him and discuss!

The “home” hammocks we’ve had that spend most the summer, unprotected, in the sun, lasted about 2 years before you could poke a hole in the fabric with your finger. If your setup is a center pole with vertical poles around it (like wheel rim and axle) I’d suggest you have top bars (spokes) run from that center pole to the top of the other vertical poles. The base of the poles, in concrete, should be fine. I know your question was about the hammocks but the supports need consideration too. I was going to mention hammock sleeves - like snakeskins for tarps - but I think Watertooner had a better ideal of just shielding the area with a tarp. It will block some view of the sky, but it will allow hanging in the rain and keep the sun (and bird poop) out of people’s eyes during the day.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.

Possible lability issues if someone was using one of the hammocks that is out in the elements all the time and the hammock failed.
I am still 18 but with 52 years of experience !
