1st Trip out with our DIY Hammocks

    Well...

The wife and I finally got to go out for our 1st overnight car camping trip of the year this weekend. This was also the maiden voyage for the 2 new DIY hammocks and the 1 DIY UQ that the wife had made. She also put some work on the cheap ($45.00) Sil-Nylon tarps I picked up and they worked like a champ.

Here is a picture of our tarp setup...

We overlapped the tarps because we hung our hammocks side by side. This worked out O.K. but... the tarps are just too small to protect us against the cold winds that we encountered Saturday night.

She made a down UQ from an old down throw we had and I just used a pad. She was as snug as a bug and I was O.K. as long as I didn't move off the pad. My mind is made up and I am either having her make me an UQ or I am buying one, before our next trip (the end of April).

Here is a Picture of the hammocks side by side...

You can’t really see them because of the bug nets (ENO Bugnets), but trust me, they are in there.

All in all it was a great time and what’s more important is she is really excited about our next trip.

BTW... Jaiko (our dog) also had a great time...

I have also uploaded a short youtube video of the trip...

    NICE!!!!!
What a handy woman she is. Fox hat is brilliant!!!!!
Fun to see and hear the enthusiasm ...... couples that hang together communicate and bond better.
I really do not know if that is true but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy typing it.
Yes ... get her to make you a UQ .... only way to fly these days. Pads are do-able but UQs are Heaven in rip-stop!!!!!!

Its great that you can hang together. It looks like a great setup there. By why does Jaiko have to sleep on the ground? No doggie hammock?

Very cool! That's great that you both get out (and the doggie too!).

That's nice that you got to hang together in gear that your wife made. Now you just got to get her to make you an UQ of you own or maybe she can teach you how.

The dog slept in the hammock with her. The picture is of him sitting in one of the camping chairs. Also, if you watch the video you will see her put on a sling (portable / wearable doggie hammock) she made to carry the dog around at camp.

The best part was to hear he bragging to her sisters, on the way home, about how comfortable it was to sleep in the hammocks she made and how her UQ let her sleep comfortable, while I was struggling with my pad and freezing.

    This was a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.

She is now looking forward to our next trip at the end of this month.
She will be making me an UQ so I don't freeze next time.

This is a win / win for me...
