Trip to Hells Canyon - no trees

If you are heading to a canyon I dont see why you could not take some extra suspension and hang from rocks? I have seen pictures of it being done its just like rock climbing

Good idea. I'll take my amsteel that I usually use for hanging my food.

For general info on Hells Canyon--
Does have hanging locations but not frequent and may require lots of improvising and searching. The area is an off season and relatively undiscovered hiking gem. No snakes yet and usually protected from storms ... believe it's about 12" precip/yr. I'd take a tent but if its a leisurely trip with 2 day stops at these locations for local hiking or fishing -- I would take a hammock. Cougar Country and a few, very few wolves.

Exceptions--
Kirkwood Ranch has DIY hanging on the dirt road and in the woods uphill from the historic residence -- might be able to work out something near the river and camping area in the cottonwoods.

About 10 mi or so further up river also on the ID side is Sheep Creek (think it is called) --- pretty sure hanging could easily work out within 200 yds or so of that historic residence which in summer is used for turista trips.

Great to be able to hang on this trip but also appreciate all the info provided in case I needed to set up on the ground.

thats neet,now i want to do a rock hang.allthough with all the trees around here that would just be silly.
i do not have anything like that around here but last year i floated/trout fished the canoe down a small river overnight trip.i knew the area was allmost all swamp with hardly any big trees.i went on google earth and zoomed down to the area,found some trees(what i was hoping were trees)about in the middle of the trip.google earth has the cordiates on screen were ever the pointer is pointed.i pointed it at the trees,manually loaded the cordinates in my gps.i was then able to stop confidently at the tree spot and hang.turned out they were the only trees i could have hung at.if i would have passed them i would have been sleeping in the canoe.or on the ground amongst some very thick tag alders.
