Thumbs up Jumped in with both feet!

Several weeks ago I was dreading the upcoming backpacking trip I had scheduled with our Scout Troop only because I knew how miserable the nights would be. I stopped in to a local outdoors outfitter and the discussion progressed from the latest tents to "have you ever slept in a hammock?" My interest was peaked as I had just turned 50 in Jan and sleeping on the ground has become very unpleasant to say the least. Not one to make a rash purchase, I went home and did my internet research, this site being a wealth of information. With Temps initially forecast for low 40's, I was a little concerned about a hammock not only for this trip, but cool temps are the norm for much of the backpacking we do here in the mountains of VA. So I jumped in, spent more money than I should, ordered a Clark NX-250 on Sunday, arrived on Thurs evening, stretched it out in the den and repacked for backpacking. Headed out on Friday, arrived at our first night's site and set up in the dark for the first time ever in a hammock. Great night. Wind 20 -30 mph, snow still on the ground at 4,000 ft, temps dipped to 22degF and I stayed warm and comfortable thanks to the insight found here! Best night on the trail in years. Second night was warmer but awoke to rain and stayed nice and dry.
To wrap it up, I am now a hanger!!

Congratulations and welcome to the forum. I'm a recent NX 250 convert myself. That is indeed a sweet rig for foul/cold weather camping. Glad your first experience was a good one. May you have many more.

    Welcome K4.
I loved that you jumped in and went out on a winter camp right away and had a good time . Good for you.

A hearty welcome from another 250 fan!! Unfortunately, your bank account is going to suffer horribly from your rather questionable choice to hang out with the folks on this forum. It has only just begun
