Silnylon defective

I believe this is 1.1oz silnylon(from a fly), treated side on the bottom.
each square is 5x5mm

One thing that helps to identify Silnylon is that it is coated both sides, so both sides have the same look and feel.

You're not, by chance, confusing ripstop for silnylon? Most silnylon is ripstop, but most ripstop is not silnylon.

Sorry, it's ripstop silnylon with additional coating on one side.

Do I get it right that you need more than a handful to sew a single tarp?
If so you might want to import your silnylon directly from China... look here: http://hongyuantex.en.alibaba.com/. They don't sell less than 1000 meters...
