    This is my beginning

I have been a hammock camper for over 10 years, I was a wilderness trainer for a number of years. ...And now...I am just a backpacking dad. Most of my searches on YouTube are just lookig to see how others "Crack the Nut" on backpacking and hiking.

    Welcome from downstate NY.

What are your backpacking goals? There's a huge difference between relatively short jaunts into the woods primarily to camp in luxury with many of the amenities of home and a minimalist focusing on 15-20 miles per day with ultralight kit and appropriate skill set.

I'll echo Phantom's question about what sort of wilderness training you taught. It might be that you already have a lot of skills that most don't have when starting out.

Nowadays, the problem just getting into a new hobby is not lack of information but too much of it... we're absolutely inundated with options without knowing which ones to choose.
