I have quite a few friends who did NOT take my advice when they started backpacking. Some learned, some gave up. Like anything else, I guess.

I thru-hiked the FHT last November (did sections of it for years prior) and It was a perfect trip. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!!

I've only experienced that trail vicariously, but it just looks beautiful. That Eldorado is a great hammock. I'm a full-time hanger, and the Eldorado is my go-to. I made a mesh organizer that hangs from the ridgeline, and that supplements the stuff sack 'organizer' perfectly for me, so I don't miss the XLC shelf.

Sounds like you had a good time and got to test a lot of new gear even if things didn’t stick to the original plan. Packing light is key, but can be extra difficult for newbies - heavier gear, wanting to bring the kitchen sink, food not dialed in. Sometimes you just have to let them experience the pain and then lighten up next time out. Thanks for sharing takes me back

Lol that's a fair bit of uppity-downity. Inexperienced flatlanders with heavy packs are guaranteed to suffer!

My partner and I hiked to Virginia Hawkins falls from the laurel valley access years ago as our introduction to the trail. It was beautiful and I hope to thru hike the trail someday. My friend just earned his peregrine award this year.

Hickery and I ant to do it again someday but this time only 11 miles a day for more camp relax time.

That trail haunts my dreams, and I long to thru-hike it. Would love to know when you and maple king are going through it again. I’d love to make you two some trail coffee.
