    Fishnet Snakeskins?

I am brand new into the Hammocking world, and I've got a Hammock Gear Bugnet Hammock, with a Hammock Gear Journey tarp on order currently. I am looking at the snakeskins, and I am wondering if I could make my own snakeskin. I do have a basic sewing machine, but I am thinking about making skins out of fishnet, figuring it would be lighter. I realize that it won't really ventilate any better, as the tarp itself would be all wrapped up inside of it anyway, but is there a good reason that fishnet wouldn't work? I suppose I couldn't really "sew" a fishnet, but maybe I could knot the joinery? Wondering if anyone has done anything similar?

Well, several vendors make snakeskins out of No-see-um netting. I'm not sure how robust your fishnet is, perhaps it's good.

Welcome to the hammock hanging neighborhood! I wonder if the tarp's ridgeline and guy out connection points (D rings or Linelocs) might snag on the larger fish net openings. Depends on the type of fishnet material. A common theme on the Forum is give it a try & report back. Might be a good idea.

I'm limited in my DIY skills, but snake skins are perhaps one of the easier items to make. I did successfully make mine with No-Seeum.

    Have fun!

That was my first thought, too.

I use elastic hair ties. Fast and simple to use.

ohhhhh, that's kinda brilliant! I tried just stuffing it, and all my guylines are a disaster now. I like this hair tie idea now. How many ties did you put on the ridgeline?

The ties stay on the rolled up tarp, tarp taken off ridge line and stowed. To deploy, I hang ridge line, connect tarp to RL, spread it out then slide the ties to each end. Maybe a total of 8-10...4 or 5 per side of rolled up tarp. I think I have a vid somewhere showing me deploying and stowing tarp using the hair ties. For now, here's a vid from a few years ago that shows the tarp before deployment.

Go to 3:07 if you don't want to watch the whole vid.
I've never used the snakeskins...I was originally. But before I sat down to make a pair, I read about using hair ties here on Hammock Forums. I wish I could remember who's post it was...I can't take credit for the idea. I just know after reading the post, I thought it was such a simple solution, I had to give it a try. Have not looked back.
