    First Project Complete!

I finally finished my first DIY hammock. It's a simple, double-layer gathered end hammock that took me four hours from laying the fabric out to cut to finally placing a lark's head around either end and hanging it up for my wife to see. She liked my Blackbird a lot after trying it out, but I'm not willing to part with it.

I picked up six yards of ripstop from WM and decided to give it a go. She's 5'3", so I didn't see the need to make a 10' or 11' hammock If this one isn't quite to her liking I can let it go to one of my girls and make a bigger one for her later if needed. I only swore a few dozen times at the thread injector.

I'll try to post pics later if possible. It's a bit dark outside to try to hang and take shots right now.

Well, we had a few minutes this afternoon and my wife was more than happy to take advantage of the sunshine. I didn't have any straps made yet, so we wrapped the suspension ropes around the trees for the test hang. I'm working on sewing loops onto old seatbelt material so we can hang hers with a marlin spike hitch next time. I set up my Blackbird to enjoy the weather as well.

I also strung up my GG tarp with Opies single ridgeline to see what kind of room I'd have under it. That thing provides lots of coverage! I still need to work on setting it up correctly.

I don't have snakeskins yet, so I reefed the tarp with paracord tied in half-hitches long the ridgeline. Not perfect, but it seemed to work.
