Iceman good to see you kickin

    First time in

    Maybe hike with a group
    Use a navigation app

Can download trails with WiFi at home, then when on trail, with no cell coverage your map will still work and show your exact location in real time

If you already know this….I owe you a cup of coffee
I think directions I’ve posted are good
It’s a 90 minute hike, know when sun sets and know you might have an additional 30 minutes of dusk.

One group will arrive at Yates just after lunch.
Stand around and talk a bit and then begin backpacking.
That way we can get there and set up without being in a rush.

Another group (my guess) will get to Yates later in afternoon and begin trekking around 500. Still get there before dark and set up at or around sunset.

And some will arrive later (the story of my life) and will camp overnight at Yates. Get up early EARLY! And trek in Saturday morning.

If you are not hiking in with a group, good thing to call and or text us. To refresh directions.

We will camp at Beech Camp.

From Yates, take spur trail (its 50 yards past that gate) Follow spur trail for five minutes

It will Tbone into Uwharrie Trail, turn left going south on Uwharrie Trail

After about 30 minutes, turn right onto Dutchman’s Creek Trail (all turns are well marked with signs)

Follow Dutchman’s Creek Trail 30 to 45 minutes.
You will step across several small streams. One or two steps on the way.

Then you will get to where Dutchman’s Creek Trail crosses Dutchman’s Creek three times in rapid succession.
Beech Camp is there, as soon as you cross Dutchman’s Creek the second time.

You can cheat and not cross Dutchman’s Creek by following the creek bank about a hundred yards. Then magically you will be at Beech Camp, without crossing Dutchman’s Creek at all.!

Good to have some hiking poles for balance either for crossing the creek or walking along the near bank.

AllTrails Pro and maybe AllTrails apps will show those trails
Type in Uwharrie Trail Dutchman’s Creek Trail figure8 loop. Or something like that.

It can show you your way.
Also, first time in, best to hike with a group.
There will probably be three groups starting from Yates, at different times.

    Aaaaaaaiiiiiight!
Probably be there for first group between 11-12..

I’ll be in the area with a scout troop that weekend — I’ll keep an eye out for y’all. Aiming for the stream camp on the Uwharrie Trail (Fat Man’s Camp). We’ll just keep going if it’s full when we get there. I won’t know our itinerary for sure until our youth leadership makes up his mind.

I pulled up AllTrails on my PC but didn't find it particularly helpful.
Not much in the way of trail markings.
Might be better on the pro version but can't swing that right now. But looking at that and other maps, I can follow your directions.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

I assumed a little bit based on Phantom's description, so hopefully this is about the right situation. The spur trail that connects to the Uwharrie trail isn't in CalTopo, so it's just a straight line.

You can always hike a little way along Dusty Level Road until it crosses the Uwharrie Trail — it’s not much longer. The signage for the Uwharrie and Dutchman Trails is fairly clear, once you’re on the trail.

NC Uwharries April Fools Hang April 1 2 3 2022

Raladd, it’ll be great to get in piney woods. Plenty of room for all of us in Uwharries. I see you already know….Hammocks Rule!

Some of my best memories are from Scouting.
    Thank you Raladd!

Slowhike see you then. You might be hiking in with Shannon and maybe a couple more Saturday.

Just what I need. A little springtime camping with some great people. I believe Friday afternoon is a go.
