New to Hammocks in So. Calif.

As a retired teacher of 26 years, I've decided to pamper myself. I did manage to teach without ever raising my voice to a student, something I promised myself I wanted to achieve. Some years those high schoolers sure wanted to test if I was serious about wanting to keep my perfect record. Thankfully I did. I felt that if mutual respect was achieved more curriculum could be taught.

I decided that some lounging in the back yard on a hammock would be fun. I do love the view from my backyard.

I am on HammockForums, looking for information.
First thing I bought was an underquilt. Probably not the proper order to do things, but I did get it second-hand for some savings over new and it is in route.
I bought this Cedar Ridge Outdoors one:
    20F Temp.
52 inches long and 48 inches wide.
    3 ounces of overstuff.
    Draft collars on each end.
    1 pound 5 ounces w/stuff sack.

So next I ordered a Hammock. I ordered a Warbonnet Blackbird original. I'm 5'7" so I didn't think I needed the longer one.
It is in route to me. It is this one, in their blem section:

    • Suspension Options:Polyester Webbing w/ Buckles + Pair of Carabiners
    • SALE:Lightweight Double Layer Original BlackBird Hammock (RLDBB-DT)

Now I'm looking for a Hammock Stand. Don't have one in route yet and hope to learn about them here.

So that's a little bit about me and why I joined the forum.

Congratulations on keeping your cool all those years! Welcome to the forum. I love the colors in your quilt.
I don't have much info on hammock stands, so I'm no help there.

Thank you! Once I saw the colors of that underquilt, it pulled me in and I made the purchase before even having a hammock.

Learn by doing, learn by playing, learn from others on YouTube, at group hangs, and camping with smaller groups of friends.

Mainly, you’re gonna have lots of fun.
    Lots of great people here!

A big shout out from Denton NC

Way to go. Yelling just cheapens the situation. A cool head rules. Teachers should be paid more than any profession.
    Enjoy your hammock quest.

Welcome to the forums! Let the journey down the rabbit hole begin!

For stands, there are many options available, but with the hammock that you bought you're going to want to make sure that you find one that can accommodate your 10' hammock (which most probably do). Do you need one that is portable so you can take it places or are you just going to put it in your back yard? You also may want to consider your budget, as the prices also vary widely.

Great backyard view. Hammock stands are an option. There is also the tried and true put a couple of posts in the ground with some concrete. For my backyard I did one post and a hook in the corner of my storage shed/workshop. Obviously not very portable, but was a much cheaper option (and I hang my birdfeeder on the post as well.)

No one sits around talking about that trip where it was 76 and sunny the whole time.
