Hi all
Hammocking for around Three years see some videos on Portaledge and Hammocking up in trees.
Something like to do.
Is it possible to hang in a V of a tree with my DD Hammock about 20 - 30ft up in tree?
Then buying new kit.
Thanks

Sure. If you don't mind falling.
We do have a member who does this. He uses climbing equipment and may even sleep in a safety harness if I recall.

"Never hang your hammock higher than you're willing to fall" is advice I've seen touted on this forum, and I think it's sound.
Hammocks sometimes fail. Sometimes it's user error. Sometimes there is a defect. Sometimes there is unnoticed damage.
I wouldn't do it without additional safety equipment to ensure I don't hit the ground if my hammock did.

Watch TreeFool. He uses a lot of climbing gear for safety. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...ASuiTiN3YK_Bu2
I would not do it without a safety harness. And a pee bottle!!!

yes that looks cool and extreme at the same time.
Its a good day to be out in the woods no matter the weather.Mist One..
After some time hanging, it makes sense to me. I've had knots sloooooowly slip to where I woke up with my butt barely dragging the ground. Made me re-think my setup, and I only started 18" up.![]()

Possible cheat code for fixing some knots and hitches
This is if the loose end or tag end that hangs down after it exits the knot, happens to slip so that loose end becomes shorter.
After you tie you knot or hitch—Add a slip knot in loose end as close to your knot exit as you can put it. Maybe as close as an inch.
Slip knots are directional, and if you tie slip knot facing right way, then when your rope slips—it will only slip until slip knot bumps into your knot.
Then it will stop—it will be too fat to be pulled through your original knot.
Good luck with you hammock suspension, most of us have had to solve a few glitches along the way!
Do not confuse slip knot with slipped half hitch—even their names are similar!
Yes, I've started backing up knots. I think it's an issue with my webbing. My wife's doesn't seem to slip, but mine (different type) has.
If there wasn't anything to tinker with, what fun would it be?
