    Hanging from basement rafters

I want to hang a 10' diy hammock in my basement from the rafters or floor joices. They are 8' above the floor. How long should they be apart and how long should the straps be? I am thinking from looking at pics that I would need 10' on each end to get enough sag and keep the hammock low enough? Any suggestions?

10 foot should cover it. If your not sure on the distance and don't want to cut your straps. Tie up the hammock with cheap string for an empty test hang. then you'll know where your at as far as distance, etc. Then measure for straps.

I hang in the basement from rafters and because you're attaching so high up you need the attachment points to be as far apart as possible. I'm guessing mine are over 20'. I just drilled a hole half way up the rafter and then pulled one side of a loop of amsteel blue line thru. A loop end hangs down on each side of the rafter and I attach my carabiner to them.

I asked almost the same question several months earlier, its about ten feet to twelve and make sure you get the right screws for the hardware.

I installed two stainless steel padeyes in my living room ceiling and successfully hung from them. The padeyes are 7/8" I.D. and are rated to over 2000 lbs. apiece. They are available from West Marine. About $20.00@.

Thanks for the good ideas. Especially about using string for a test hang. So simple, duh.

Yep, I'm using a similar method to Knotty's. I just tied one loop through the rafter hole, so I have just the one loop on either end, and that works really well. With loops through the rafters you can use multiple types of suspensions to attach to them, which adds flexibility.
