All this talk about abrasion makes me think - do you need to take any precautions when packing this stuff. With my sil tarps I just shoved them in a mesh pocket of my pack. But if use a Cuben tarp, do I need to put it away in a special sack or what?

    Short answer- no
I've had no issues with abrasion from packing/transporting any Cuben
item. I suppose it's possible but not likely.

Sewing weakens the material so its best to bond with tapes or adhesives...There are many that work, some better than others...I have a cuben tarp that I built and it also is 100% bonded..Its pretty badass if I do say so myself.

Agree w/ AS - my polyester hammocks stretch less and are much more comfortable than my nylon hammocks of similar weight. I made a 1.1 oz nylon hammock that gave me too much shoulder squeeze to use, but the HH 1.1 material is fine (and it's still a form of nylon).

A cuben hammock is more like a polyester hammock but lays even flatter..

Looks great gnome! How does it lay? I bet the stretch is not noticable. What does it weight? Did you wrap all of the webbing with cuben? What weight cuben did you use?

no or very little stretch. The wgt of the C is about .44/ I believe. It is a strange sort of bilious green, This is from a roll that I shared with another forum member, maybe Grizz? can do good side lies. I didn't mean to wrap the web with cuben, that came from a failed experiment! I will cut the web from the web Vs and add the amstel to save another ounce or so.I will prob add a permanent ridge lie like I do with my C. gathered H. (but maybe not!) When I get done fiddling I will weigh it. I really like the use of my sticks as spreaders. not original but I haven't seen an attachment from the spreaders to the web quite like mine. I put a short reinforcement piece on the webbing and poked a hole in it that the poles sit in. I use a small carbon fiber, tube & epoxy with a very short nail sticking out of the handle end of the pole, for the ground end of the pole the small steel nub fits in the reinforced webbing. It makes for a smooth edge and will not effect or rip the tarp. and adds no weight. I closed up both ends by just extending the length of the C for the H.
both end caps (taped not sewn) are about 10 in deep which make 2 storage areas in the H . which I think will be handy. gnome

I am going to sell a few Cuben Hammock "Beta Test Models" for $100. They are 9' long and 52" wide. They weigh 4oz and pack down real small.. I will build them with either a channel end or a stopper type knot end.. Email me for more details.. [email protected]

Are you going to hem/bond the long edges?
