If a little extra weight and bulk are not an issue I'd rather go longer. Depending on where you travel you might be thankful for carrying the extra suspension length. I've never had an issue with 12inch straps but did once when I had shorter ones.

I have 8' spider/poly straps with beetle buckles and 6' whoopie slings on my hammock. More adjustability than needed, but lots of length. My hammock is only 9 ft though, too. Here in northwest WI we have lots of big fat old growth trees and you never know what kind of usable spacing you'll run into. My other thought was to try 15' straps and CLs.
I predominantly camp in NC, FL, and TX and I run 15' Myerstech hybrid straps. I usually have 2-4 extra feet of strap that I roll up when I finish my Beckett hitches. I could probably have been fine with 12', but they came in 15' lengths and are super light so I do not mind having the flexibility. They also offer me the ability to double wrap the tree which usually satisfies the 2" strap requirement for some states. I still carry a pair of 3' dogbones I'd made back when I carried 8' poly straps but I have not used them since getting the 15' straps
In the PNW and have been bit too many times by having straps less than 10'. Currently planning an order that will include two 15' uhmwpe straps.
I use two 12' daisy chain straps for my RR. I have a set from Dutch and also a set from HG; no difference but can't get past the black w/lime green

I definitely overdo it but sometimes it can make the difference between a successful hang or not with far away trees. I have 25' long webbing that i do a becket (beckit?) hitch with to the hammock suspension or carabiner. Carry a couple pieces of string for water that i tie on the suspension if needed. Got the webbing straps on knotandrope. https://www.knotandrope.com/collections/flat-nylon-webbing/products/mil-spec-nylon-webbing I did a figure 8 loop on one end and make sure its tensionless so the loop itself isnt tight. Im considering a 3/8ths rope and using sticks under the rope to distance itself off the tree. The webbing has a more compact storage form.
If i get hardware my life would be easier i guess but i like to use my knots. its a fun challenge.

Two 10' straps (Kevlar or Myerstech hybrid) suffice for me 99% of the time here in the NE. I also have a 3' Amsteel dogbone that covers the other 1%.
For other parts of the country I consult the natives before going there.

I go with the 15 foot. Better too long than too short. I have had to improvise at times to get around a fat trees. Even at 15 we go to a place with fat trees and 15 comes up a little bit short. Right Phantom? You know where I am talking about.
Not a weight weenie (to a point).
Yes I use 15 ft long straps don't weight hardly nothing but if you're looking for trees they were spread further apart you'll have extra length I always Carry straps longer I'm pretty much ultra light but in the colder weather my load is a bit heavier my winter pack load is about 25 pounds for 2 nights
