Whoa! I just read the imbedded link in that link, where KC (Chris Bynum) describes the pole build. They are just a few inches (2-3) longer, not 2'.

I asked that specific question in the thread, the answer was " 8"-12" works well " .... so less than I remembered, more than you thought. Mentioned specifically in post #69

Now here's an outside-the-box (hammock) idea - instead of guying out that hammock net - where the lines can get in the way on the entrance side - you could spread that part of the hammock by using a small flexible pole affixed under that hammock rather than over the ridgeline.

In the olden days, I had a "cowboy camping" net that was sort of like a HUG net for ground-dwellers. It was held away from my face with a very small diameter fiberglass arched pole. That same sort of thing would be used under the hammock, to keep the net away from your head. Its job would not be to widen the head end like a Bridge Spreader bar; it wouldn't need to be that robust. It would just be springy enough to keep the bug net away from the side of your head.
In order to see what few have seen, you must go where few have gone. And DO what few have done.
