Killarney? I don't have any intel on good spots and what the winter protocol would be, but it seems like a good place for a backcountry hang.

For my part, I'd love to get out at least once this season to do some good old-fashioned winter camping with the possiblity of some ice-fishing thrown in for good measure. We've been to quite a few cool spots over the years, Algonquin, Niger Lake, Kawartha Highlands PP and Killarney to name a few and all have been a good time. So where to go?
It's the old dilemma. Crown land camping is ideal but of course there's parking to contend with. One or two cars isn't too much of a problem but half a dozen or more is a different story. Parks have the access and the parking, but the fees are annoying. We haven't been back to Kawartha Highlands for a while. I'm open to suggestions.
As to when, maybe that's easier. I'd like to wait until we have dependable cold temperatures and some snow, say early to mid February (say the weekends or the 4th or 11th).

Charlie and I are planning to be there Friday to Sunday.
I vote for the weekend of February 4-5 as the 5th is the full moon !
Killarney is get a permit don't camp on a site however the only real parking lot would be the base of the crack which really you're just in lowland with small swampy areas.
I like the idea of Kawartha highlands as we haven't been there in a long time

Have fun and take lots of pictures. I’ve never done winter camping and Killarney is too remote for a ‘test’ run. Hopefully we’ll gather at Valens sometime too. See y’al then.

We're meeting at Valens on January 7th and 8th for the "Gearing Up for Winter Hang", where hopefully the temperatures will be cool enough to put your winter setup through a trial run. That's the idea at least. Between expert guidance, heated bathrooms, room for extra gear in the car and the ability to leave if things get too difficult, Valens has always been a great place to get started in winter hammocking.
