    Can't quite quit the CATQUILT

My first DIY/MYOG under quilt is ready for its debut. Drumroll please ...

coming in at 44" tall by 48" wide this one of a kind is a bit on the hefty side but she's got it where it counts. Her skimpy DWR ripstop covers her little secret without revealing too much. In a one ounce stuff sack, the total weight including suspension lines is 3lbs even. That's 48 ounces or a whole lotta grams!!

With eight baffles, I tried to mix it up a bit and went with a differential baffles of 2" on the outside 2 baffles and 4" on the middle 4 baffles. This will give me more warmth in the middle where I'll use it most. You have to really look at the pictures in order to tell because the 6" wide baffles loft up to almost four inches on the outside baffles anyway.

So the secret!! I'm calling this the CATQUILT because the insulative properties are all coming from plant materials. That's right, no animals were harmed or injured in the production of this quilt (not that I'm opposed to that, but it didn't work out that way this time). Instead of goose down, this is made with free, inexpensive, CATTAILS. With the nylon from WW @$1.50/yd, the total cost was under $20.

Find out more in the thread Cattails - A free alternative to down?

Edit: BTW, that is a two inch wide duct tape in the loft shots for reference. Don't let the neon orange fool you.

Nice looking quilt..good job. How hard was it working with the cattails?

Pretty neat! And a first of it's kind!!! Yeah, a little heavy compared to others, but hey, free down!
And I'll be interested to see what kind of temps it keeps you warm down to. I'd guess it's a pretty good insulator.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

Good job. I'm curious whether you'll have any problems with sag. ??
