NC - Uwharrie Fri Night Out 3/24

Phantom and I met up at Yates last night for a quick hike over to Beech Camp. We had a couple of friends (Lenny & Indy) in tow who helped stand guard against the local wildlife. When we got to camp, a group of Scouts rolled in while we were cooking dinner so Phantom took some amsteel over to their area and gave some lessons on the Siberian Hitch, Farrimond Friction Hitch, and Daisy Chain knots. I think he also took donations s for his YouTube channel… Weather was fantastic for field cook meals and a campfire. Hit a bit of rain on the hike out this morning but none of us melted. Apologies for my tent adjacent to Phantom’s impressive 12’ rig, but that’s my solution for 2 dog nights in the woods. Looking forward to the next trip.

We were beyond cell service deep in Uwharries.
Ergo, no “true stories” were fact checked
Spring had sprung, but mosquitos had not got the memo, they were no where to be found!
If I’m lucky enough to backpack with you this summer, my 20# pack will drop to 10# or 15#

Twistytee, great to have Indy and Linny to share campfire and coffee! Thanks!

They enjoyed the cheese and extra pets. I think I hit 17 lb TPW on the last warm weather trip we took, and that still included several luxury items like my chair and fry pan cook kit. I could easily go sub 15 if I leave those behind. Maybe we do a two night loop next time so we can try a few new campsites and add a few easy miles.

This site needs an NSFW tag as a warning for that t*nt pic. Sounds like y’all hit that URE sweet spot before it gets hot & buggy!

As far as tents go, the double rainbow is one of my favorite designs. I have the Li version for trips where I can't hang.

yep, it’s a nice design. This is a gen 1 version before Henry made them a bit wider at top with the larger strut bar, but it still fits me and the two dogs well and is reasonably light. I bet the Li version is great. That being said, my hammocks offer a more comfortable nights sleep.
