Honestly if you're a hanger, why would you build a platform for a mattress? The hammock, you just disconnect from one end and it's completely out of the way.

Of course if you're not traveling alone it would be different. Heck in my van I could hang two!

    Now to find my sprinter..
Couldnt you just put a bit ofsheet plastic over the pvc for waterproofing?
    Thank you

Back when this thread started, I tried it on my 91 GMC Safari Van.

I hung with the ropes on the hammock ( I never got fancy on my suspension. A 3/8 nylon rope with two loops for larks heads. Less than a foot from hammock to end knot. ) thru the front of the side door diagonally to the left rear door, I got a good hang angle with nearly a foot under my butt.

Several naps show it as workable.

No pictures yet. (plus, I can't figure out how to post pictures without a long involved process)

Had the hammock hanging in the van for two weeks with almost no leakage. Even in driving rain the first length of cordage got slightly damp, but not wet. Tried adding the tubing to protect the amsteel but it didn't seem necessary.

I'm quite satisfied with this arrangement.

Been meaning to post this for a while now. Here's an ENO DoubleNest in my 1991 Toyota Previa. I'm 6'1"/170 lbs and I get about six inches of clearance off of the floor. Used this setup quite a bit on a month-long roadtrip out west that I took this summer. Zero damage to the van/door jambs. The one downside is that the inability to fully recline the front passenger seat prevents a decent night's sleep, but for short lounging sessions it works great. I am planning to swap my front seats for a pair of Toyota Supra seats that I picked up. Those recline flush with the floor so I should be good to go after that!

I had SO much help from hppyfngy on this project. I really can't thank you enough, Randy, for providing me with the dogbones and bouncing ideas back and forth via PM to help me tweak the setup. It's a tight fit, but it fits!

Seems a bridge hammock with a whoopie at each corner would be a very easy set up.

I hang in a 2001 Astro cargo van, I found a couple of existing holes in the rear drivers side structural tube to insert a 5/8" eye bolt thru, I used a square unistrut washer on the bottom and a round one on the top. I loop a continuous amsteel loop to the eye that's larks headed onto the whipped hammock. The other side, of the 10' tablecloth hammock was shortened just enough to keep my butt off the floor, has a longer continuous amsteel loop that is passed over the arm/linkage of the front of the sliding door then just clips onto the passenger side adjustable seat belt stud. Works like a champ.
