If you are coming to this hang, please have a plan to secure you food overnight. The bears have been out in force this summer. A couple that works at the hatchery has confirmed a problem Bear as recently as Friday according to Titaniumpyro

Roger that. I'll plan on arriving Friday afternoon with a BV450 bear cannister. Let me know if anything changes.

Many bears have had unpleasant encounters with a pack of farm dogs or hunting dogs.
Usually the bear decides to go elsewhere.
It’s possible to lose a dog to the bear’s claws.

If a bear is getting me, whip out your phones, otherwise your friends will never believe your version of events.

From what I understand if your hiking in bear country with a group make sure someone in the group is slower than you.
Straight out of Clayton.

Most physical hike: Grandfather Mountain, NC. Aug 13.

I don't need to make my pack lighter. I need to make my (_*_) lighter.

Once again, I have two containers of firewood in the bed of my truck which you can feel free to open the tailgate and help bring some up to camp, every bit helps. I will get the tinder up to camp on my second trip up.

WNC-John Rock, Pisgah National Forest 13-16 July

Once again, my job has kicked me squarely in the proverbial nuts. I won’t be able to come Thursday and possibly not at all. I might get to come Friday night and leave Saturday morning.

Little Bear and I made it home safe. Everything has finally dried out. That deluge last night was one of the most intense I’ve ever experienced and it was Little Bear’s first time camping in the rain/backpacking.

I’ll get a video to report up soon.
