All good advice PG and bonsaihiker.

Another thing that works great is very hot but not boiling water in a reliable, leak proof bottle. Nalgene is a popular choice, but I've used Gatorade bottles with no problem.
Best to put the hot water bottle inside a sock so it's not in direct contact with the skin.

The hot water bottle is often used at night, at the feet or between the legs (femoral artery), but it can be used during the day as well. Maybe the femoral arteries when sitting.
I too will something make and joy in it's making

    Slowhike, I know you right
And as added insurance put hot water bottle in a ziplock bag first, then a sock.

    I know you won’t believe this…
A few nights ago, I had a quick overnight in below freezing weather. I only had my hammock and my red t-shirts, red sweatshirts, and a toasty blaze orange toboggan.
    I slept like a baby

Adding Aerogel Insoles to your boots makes a difference, too. You still need something else between your feet and the ground, as bonsaihiker suggests. I prefer to use my Altra trail runners year round, so for winter I wear insulated NEOS (New England Overshoes) over the Altras. There can be icy patches at Grayson Highlands, so I keep a set of Kahtoola Microspikes handy, too. Mine just barely stretch to fit over the NEOS.

I recently got some Aerogel Insoles for my wife's hiking boots, and at the same time I ordered an extra set to put in the raffle.

Wearing red really makes a difference! ;~)
And I'll bet you were watching your favorite Mexican weather girl on your phone, while give the weather report for there in Mexico too!

Another if not already mentioned suggestion

For me there are three rules to keeping my feet warm, dry socks, dry socks and dry socks. I know sometimes I forget in winter that my feet perspire just like they do in the summer. Maybe even more if I'm wearing heavy socks and boots. When I think my feet are cold it's actually that they are wet AND cold. So pack more socks than you think you need and change them often. It's car camping here and extra socks take up little room in the car.

I never sleep in the same socks I've been wearing all day. I always have a dedicated pair just to sleep in.

But do not try this with a Smart water bottle. It will shrink up quicker than you can pour the water into it. Ask me how I know!
