I do change the angle so that it's in relation to the direction of pull, which is more towards the end of the guyline.
I've tested it a lot, mostly on the 20'×20' shade that I had over me all summer, and it made a big difference.
I was dealing w/ high winds and leaving the shade up. I had a corner guyline stake that was in soft stuff and would constantly pull out until I doubled it like that, afterwards it lasted a couple weeks w/ winds 4 out of 5 days and never needed restaking. I was also using better stakes in that situation, the ones in the pic, and not the rebar.
Since then I've doubled or triple staked if things were soft and have rarely had any issues.
