    Prussik Knots

So I can tie a prussik just fine and have some zing it line for the guidelines, but what rope should I make the prussik knot out of to go onto the zing it? It seems like I should use thicker line so that I can splice it into a continuous loop. Any help/ideas?

The Zing It holds fine on itself for guy lines.

And generally, as a rule.. You want the diameter of the cord you use for the prusik itself to be smaller than the cord you are prusiking too. Im sure far more important when you are putting your life on the line, so to speak.

This is just for the ridgeline, so my life won't hang in the balance of a prussik knot. The zing it seems to be pretty slippery for both the ridgeline and the prussik.

It will hold. In fact... some are having issues getting the prusik to release.

I use the same 1.75 for the prusik and main line for my guylines.

On the TRL, I use 1.75 for the prusik and 2.2 for the main line.

how long do you make the loop? I cut it 14 inches and made the continuous loop from that. i think the problem is that the doubled part of the line is actually the knot and that doesn't get quite as tight as it should be. I'll make another one with the line cut longer so the single line can form the entire knot.

I use a larger diameter (2 mm) prussik knot than the 1.75 ridgeline , however, I had to loop it around 3 times

Was it continuously looped or double fisherman's knotted?

I tend to use continuous loops, just because I like the look, but a double fisherman's knot is just fine for this application.

I start with 10" which leaves a finished 3" loop, end to end.

When I make the prusiks, I make sure the part thats doing the wraps is the unburied part of the loop. I can see where you may be having issues if part of your wraps includes any of the buried section.
