First time hanger this past weekend

After months of deep diving with Shug and the rest of the YouTube Hammcok guys, a few emails back and forth with Jared of Simply Light Designs, my SLD Trail Lair hammock came about two months ago. Of course, rainy weather prevailed for a few scheduled and rescheduled Boy Scout campouts and I only got to finally get it out this past weekend.

It’s awesome! After starting back camping a few years ago with my son in Cub Scouts and my claustrophobia set in giving me middle of the night panic attacks, I thought I’d never be able to comfortably camp again. The hammock cured it almost entirely. No panic attack, just easy flat laying all night long.

Now I just need to upgrade my TQ and UQ for cooler weather and I’ll be set! Thanks to everyone here for all the insights and thanks to Jared at SLD-he’s awesome. Definitely doesn’t get talked about enough how great the hammocks and customer service are.

I’m open to any tips to make my setup even better. Does it look about right?

Now that’s a strak setup in piney woods. Might see you at Carolina hammock group campouts.
Palmetto State Hangers are an active group, with hammock group camps through the year. Various group hangs are held in North Carolina and Virginia year round. Might see you there. I’ve met friends at group hangs; we go backpacking on trails for one or more overnight camps.

Thanks! This was up at Kings Mountain about 10 miles from my house. Good local spot!

I’ve been following both groups on Facebook. Hoping to make it out one day!

Do scouts eat that well all the time? That looks delicious.
Your setup looks great, too. Jared is pretty lowkey, but everyone who deals with him raves about him.

The scouts are in charge of their own meals. My boy’s patrol made hot dogs

Congratulations on your first hang. I still remember mine, lots of learning since then.

Scouting is such a great excuse to go camping!!

Nice work on both the hammock set up and on spending time with your child.

    Enjoy the Hammock journey.
